The most important international meeting in Latin America dedicated to the mining sector, Expomin 2023, will take place between April 24 and 27, 2023, at the new fairground Parque Fisa, located in the district of Pudahuel. The XVII International Exhibition and Congress will be attended by more than 30 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Peru, China, Spain, Germany, South Africa, Switzerland, Belgium, Brazil and Argentina. Also, for the first time in the 32-year history of Expomin, representatives from Austria, Arizona and Turkey will participate in the exhibition with important company delegations. The new version of Expomin estimates the presence of more than 70 thousand professional visitors. Likewise, it is projected that more than US$ 1,000 million will be generated in business during the event. The fair will have the participation of 1,200 exhibitors in 12 pavilions spread over 95 thousand square meters. In addition, there will be 16 thousand square meters of DEX flooring, an ultra-resistant plastic slab for industrial use, manufactured in Chile, which is made from 100% recycled plastics from Patagonia. The manufacture of this floor that will be used in Expomin allowed the recycling of 240 tons of plastic. With the presentation of new technologies, equipment and industrial development, the exhibition will highlight the presence of companies related to energy transition, environmental care, mining safety and community outreach. The executive director of Expomin, Francisco Sotomayor, informed that “in 20 days, the meeting that will show the world Chile’s development in mining will arrive at Parque Fisa. It will be the meeting point where the transfer of knowledge, experiences and the offer of technologies that contribute to innovation and increased productivity in the industry will be promoted. Therefore, I would like to invite everyone to attend Expomin 2023, an event that will impact and benefit the economy, presenting unique opportunities to generate business”. In this 17th version, Expomin will have the largest presence of mining companies since its origin, with twelve to date: Codelco, Teck, Antofagasta Minerals, Freeport-McMoRan, BHP, Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP), Angloamerican, Candelaria, Sierra Gorda, Collahusi, Albemarle and Goldfields. This year, Expomin, together with the Ministry of Mining, Sonami, and Alta Ley, will provide free space for 40 national startups in the Mining Pavilion, a meeting place for large mining companies where they can present their products, services and innovations, so that they can interact with the industry and see business possibilities and innovation opportunities for the industry. INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS The XVII International Mining Congress, organized by Fisa of the GL events Group, will have an extensive program of activities with the active participation of mining companies, government panelists, senior industry representatives and key institutions that are part of the mining ecosystem. For the first time in the history of Expomin, the international congress will be led by a woman: Amparo Cornejo, Teck’s Vice President for South America. Expomin’s seminars and talks will allow the exchange of information from the sector, which will present projects, operations, opportunities and challenges in Chile and the region. The congress will cover the main strategic issues of the sector, among them, Mining in the Region, Mining Challenges; Sustainability Trends and Socio-environmental Issues; Energy Efficiency in Mining: Reducing our Carbon Footprint; Circular Mining: Technologies oriented to waste management; Desalination Technologies: Environmental Impacts and Opportunities; Sonami Responsible Sourcing Committee; Presentation of copper-related projects; Presentation of Lithium, Gold and other projects; Exploration Challenges; People Development, Inclusion and Gender Equity; and Digitalization and Cybersecurity in Mining. Among the main panels, Panel 2, Challenges in Mining, will be held on Monday, April 24, with the participation of the Minister of Mining, Marcela Hernando; Iván Arriagada, CEO of Antofagasta Minerals; Rag Udd, President of BHP Minerals Americas; Amparo Cornejo, Vice President of South America TECK; and Máximo Pacheco, Chairman of the Board of Codelco; CEO Collahuasi Jorge Gómez; and Patricio Hidalgo Executive President Angloamerican, a panel that will be moderated by Joaquin Villarino, Executive President of the Mining Council. This panel will address the future scenario of our industry and will focus on discussing the pending issues that must be resolved to achieve the mining industry of the next 30 years. In addition, on Tuesday, April 25, Expomin will highlight Sustainability as a driving force in mining, presenting in its international congress panel 3 “Trends in Sustainability and Environmental Axes”, panel 4 “Energy Efficiency in mining: Reducing our carbon footprint”, panel 5 “Circular Mining and Technologies oriented to waste management”, ending the day with panel 6 oriented to “Desalination Technologies: Impact and socio-environmental opportunities”. In this way, the importance of the balance between mining growth and environmental care will be highlighted, thinking about social welfare and the reduction of the carbon footprint on the planet. Subsequently, on Wednesday, April 26, starting at 09:30 hours, the meeting will feature four modules focused on the development of new projects and the opportunities and barriers that are present in the mining world today. Among them, the following panels will be considered: “SONAMI’s Responsible Sourcing Committee”, with the participation of senior sourcing executives from more than 7 mining companies; “Presentation of projects – copper”; “Presentation of lithium, gold and other projects”; and “Challenges in mining exploration”.
